Every year, thousands of utility lines are damaged because someone dug without first checking what was underground. It’s dangerous, costly, and completely preventable with proper training on the 811 process. That’s why Aug. 11, or 8/11 Day, serves as an annual reminder for contractors, crews and anyone breaking ground to make sure they know what’s below before they dig. If your team works around dirt, there is a new, free training resource we want to make sure that you know about. The “Overview of 811” training module from the Common Ground Alliance is a free, fast, and practical introduction to how the call-before-you-dig system works. That’s just the start.
