Welcome to the Alabama Road Builders Association Web Site!

Welcome to the Alabama Road Builders Association web page. The Alabama Road Builders Association, founded in 1947 and based in Montgomery, is the only Alabama association that exclusively represents the collective interests of all sectors of Alabama's transportation construction Industry. Alabama's transportation construction industry generates more than $1 billion in economic activity annually and provides employment for more than 36,598 Alabamians.

The Alabama Road Builders Association is dedicated to serving the specific needs of businesses involved in Alabama's transportation construction industry. We serve contractors, materials suppliers, consulting engineers and other professional service firms. We are the industry's forum for open communication with The Alabama Department of Transportation and other agencies.

ARBA is the spokesman for the transportation construction industry, a stronger voice than that of a single member. When ARBA speaks with state and national legislators and officials, those elected and appointed public servants know that standing behind us are almost 300 tax-paying businesses and their thousands of employees, all influential contributors to Alabama's economic vitality.

ARBA is constantly taking a lead role in the lawmaking processes. We monitor legislation, take proactive positions on bills, both for and against, and we provide expert testimony and current information to lawmakers.

RoadPAC, the Political Action Committee of the Alabama Road Builders Association supports candidates who recognize the need for progressive transportation programs across the our state.

ARBA's daily work is focused on service to our members. Visit the Member Services area below to see some of the activities that we perform for our members. If you need additional information on any issue, would like to comment, or would like to volunteer to serve in any way, please call 334-832-4331 or drop us an e-mail at norrell@alrba.org.

Calling All Grassroots Volunteers!

During the 2010 legislative session, we saw just how pivotal our voice is in creating the political pressure necessary to get lawmakers to take action. Now our help is needed on a national level!

The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) is working to pass a multi-year, robustly-funded highway and transit investment bill after more than 9 months of extensions and delays by Congress. To move this measure along - which concurrently would allow for more federal transportation dollars to come to Alabama - ARTBA is launching a grassroots initiative to pass this transportation funding bill. As an ARBA member, we are asking you to help ARTBA make every effort to convince our members of Congress that the transportation construction industry needs this bill passed immediately.

What Would a Volunteer Do?

Volunteers for this effort would:
Secure face-to-face meetings with U.S. Representatives and Senators within their local congressional district. These meetings should take place during the month-long August recess

Share their personal story with lawmakers concerning federal transportation funding and how it benefits your community and supports jobs

Ask their Congressmen to make this legislation a 2010 PRIORITY. Lawmakers should also be asked to commit that they will REPEATEDLY ask party leadership in the House and Senate to pass the overdue highway and transit investment bill

Provide information to ARBA about the details of each lawmaker meeting such as when the meeting occurred, what was discussed and the resulting outcomes

I Want to Volunteer - What are the Next Steps?

For more information, the newly-developed ARTBA Mobilize Grassroots Action Guide provides a potential volunteer with all the information they need to conduct successful meetings.
